With just a click of a button these plugins can do some magic. But it is difficult especially for newbies who are still struggling to learn the trade and now faced with a web page speed problem like myself. Optimizing your site page speed can be stressful if you do it yourself.

Web Page Speed Optimization turned out to be Disaster

In the past days, I have been optimizing this blogCovert Cash Conspiracy. Read more ... » but I ran into different problems.  When Sonny Lanorias, an  InternetCovert Cash Conspiracy. Read more ... » entrepreneur, also a Member of the Top 50 MLM Blogs for 2010 and 2011, analyze this site using GTmetix.com, I got a very low result of Page Speed Grade of 78% and a Yslow grade of 64%. When I checked it myself and compared it my results with other sites, I was downcast. There are two options in order to increase it grade: Sonny offered to optimize it for a minimal fee or I do it myself. You guess right, I decided to optimize it myself.

I printed out the web page speed analysis summary and started reading its recommendations. I followed the instructions on what to optimize in the home page like the specifying image sizes, installing a plugins W3 Total Cache, and WordPress Gzip Compression. After following the instructions, clicking some buttons I had it analyzed again. I was surprised, it did some magic. The page speed increased to 84% which was good enough. At least, it indicates that it is much faster. There are still other things to do nonetheless.  Yet, when I get to the Yslow recommendations tweaking my blog using Gzip, I encountered something unclear and confusing. Instead of giving my site load speed a boost, it was now taking so much time to load. And what made it worst, was that it cannot be accessed anymore even by GTmetrix.  The site was in great trouble. Good that I was still in the admin area but only to realize that it could not be accessed as well. My only hope was addressing the situation at the cPanel.

CPanel comes to  rescue the Web Page Speed

Inside the cPanel, I deleted manually the Gzip which may have caused some unclear conflicts, maybe. Having done this, the problem was not removed. So, I also deleted the W3 Total Cache manually. And the problem just grew worse. I spent a lot of time researching for a solution. I read tons of articles and forum discussions searching for possible answers but it got me more confused. I still could not access the site. Good that I still can open the cpanel. I remembered once when my site was down due a broken theme that I installed, I went to the cpanel and manually deleted the theme. I was able to troubleshoot it. So, I did the same. I deleted the theme… and the site was up again.

What a relief… I was able to access the WP-admin again. I installed the previous theme. This time, I did some more research on web page speed optimization and found this article “The Ultimate Quickstart Guide to Speeding Up Your WordPress Site“. Now, I am following through this guide installing again the W3 Total Cache and a new pluginLead Rocket. Read more ... » DBManager. I was hit with a stop over when I reach to the point of spriting the site using SpiteMe. My freshly  resurrected site could not be sprited because it is still taking so much time to load. Searching for more solutions at wordpress.org, I found these two plugins: WP Optimize and WP CleanFix. I installed these two but it did not solve the problem of web page speed.

Google Developer Methods to increase Web Page Speed

Now, I am consulting google webmaster tools. There are tons of information, methods and tools to help increase the web page speed. https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights.  I still yet to implement the recommendations.  Wish me luck as I continue my web page speed optimization.
